A perfect nice Sunday day ride....
http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/574940802APpnHhRight now this is the best I can do with this pos computer.
Left this morning around 9:45 or so, had to wait until the fog burned off. Wore my leather jacket and long sleeve shirt. Topped off the tank at Acme and headed out. The winds were blowing but the worse was yet to come.
Headed down my usual way Rt 309 to Denton, then around on to Rt 16. I like 16, it's a country road and nothing but open farmland. The wind was picking up the further south I went. I made it to Cambridge and made a left on Rt 16 again from Rt 50. Once on this road the area becomes desolate. I continued and enjoyed the scenery, nothing but openess, water and marsh like surroundings...I love it. The sky was crystal clear blue, the sun was very bright and the wind was blowing. The bike plowed thru like an 18 wheel truck, running perfectly.
Further south I went the flatter the land became and more and more water was surrounded me.
Hoopers Island!! ahead, great, dropped my speed down to 30mph..there were signs saying 50mph!!! but the 90º turns were indicating 15 mph, even at that speed you had to be careful. Going over the last bridge was weird? You are surrounded by water, then the bridge rises very high, then the wind blasts the crap out of you and all you see is water everywhere, then it drops down into the water, right at water level. If someone threw a rock it would have washed water over the road!!! there was no shoulder, just water!! It was exciting driving over this bridge.
I rode the bike all the way to the very end, took off my helmet and the wind was blowing sooo hard it felt like I was driving at 45mph!!! It felt more comfortable with my helmet on and face shield down!! But the scenery was worth it, the pictures don't do it justice. There were noting but fishing villages everywhere, boats and more boats. A very quaint area that seemed untouched my modern technology. I sure as hell would not want to drive down here at night on a bike. One wrong move and you are in WATER.....screwed!!!
Total mileage: 180 miles......gas mileage: 56 mpg.. Driving back the wind (again head wind), it seems no matter which way I go I have a damn head wind!!! The wind on the way back was worse than on the way down. Came home, rubbed my ass, had a drink and a cheap cigar....
All in all...a nice day with my inner thoughts.
Oh, found a restaurant down there, I think it's the Salty Dog or something like that, looks like a real nice place.
