Winslow: I'm talking with Commander Dave of the Salisbury American Legion Post 64 of Salisbury, MD. They are planning on holding their first annual Wounded Warrior Weekend Bike Show on Saturday, 4/24/2010. I was honored to be invited to hear a speaker from the Centreville post speak about their very similar benefit. Sounds like this is one very special cause! Tell us about the Wounded Warrior Weekend you guys are raising money for.
Commander Dave: The wounded Warrior Weekend project is a program that will bring approx. 4-5 veterans on the eastern shore from Walter Reed Hospital. These individuals that come here will spend an all expense paid fishing or hunting trip on the shore. This is a small way us Americans can say thank you for our freedom. GIVING BACK TO THOSE WHO GAVE SO MUCH. The donations collected will help to offset costs of food, lodging and tokens of appreciation which could include lifetime membership to the American Legion, gift cards , and personalized jackets/shirts.
Winslow: I was very moved by what I heard, this is definitely one special cause we all as Americans should support! The event on 4/24 sounds like a great one, what all do you guys have planned for entertainment? What music do you plan on having? Bike Games? Vendors? What times do you plan on having the event?
Commander Dave: The event will be DJ'd by LJ the DJ.LJ has any type of music you want to hear He has volunteered to cover the whole event from 10-6.Vendors so far are Harley Davidson of O.C., Bath fitters,Abate of Md, Creative Cycles, Accohannock Indian Tribe, The American Legion, Sons of the Legion, The Auxiliary unit and The Legion Riders.More are planned to show.Bike games will be the gobbler, beer barrel, road course rally, and more.Food on site will include oyster fritters, ff, pork sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans and more. Winslow: The event is to be held at the American Legion Post 64 just East of Salisbury on Rt 50, correct? That is one beautiful location for an event!
Commander Dave: Yes it is a very beautiful piece of property. A sprawling 9 + acres that this event will cover. We will have everything set up in different areas.
Winslow: Wow, I cant wait to get out there and see what you guys have planned! Are you still looking for vendors? Who should they contact if interested in a spot?
Commander Dave: Yes we are still looking for vendors. Contact Carol Nicholson 410-749-9814 or myself David Mills 410-603-1203. We are interested in any veteran organizations that would like to donate or vend. Please don't feel like you have to have something to display or sell. Just come out and patronize this event. Any donations from $1-$1000 will greatly be appreciated.
Winslow: When planning one of these events, there is always that chance that it might rain. Have you planned a rain date just in case?
Commander Dave: Obviously, we always hope that the weather will cooperate but there is always that chance. If it rains, we will have the event the next day, Sunday the 25th.
